Privacy Policy
Introduction
RISE (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy and security of all personal information collected through our K–12 education platform.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect data belonging to students, parents, educators, and school administrators.
We follow all applicable privacy regulations, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other relevant federal and state laws.
Information We Collect
- Student ID, name, date of birth, grade level, school
- Academic records (grades, attendance, test scores)
- Behavioral records and incident reports
- Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 plan details
- Demographic data (race, ethnicity, language preference)
- Staff ID, name, role, department
- Employment records and certifications
- Professional development and training history
- Performance evaluations and observations
- Name, contact information (email, phone)
- Relationship to student
- Communication preferences
- Consent and authorization records
- IP address, browser type, device information
- Login timestamps and session data
- Usage analytics and interaction logs

How We Use Information
We use collected information solely for legitimate educational purposes, including:
Data Security
We implement comprehensive administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
- Encryption of data in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256)
- Role-based access control (RBAC) to limit data access
- Multi-factor authentication (MFA) for user accounts
- Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments

Data Retention & Deletion
Our data lifecycle management ensures responsible handling of personal information:
We retain personal data only as long as necessary for educational purposes or as required by law (typically duration of student enrollment plus 3–7 years).
Upon contract termination or request, we return or transfer data to the educational institution in a standard format within 30 days.
We securely delete data according to agreed schedules or upon request, using industry-standard data destruction methods.
Student & Parent Rights
- Parents and eligible students may request access to educational records maintained by schools.
- You may request correction of inaccurate or misleading records.
- Schools must obtain consent before disclosing personally identifiable information, except in limited circumstances permitted by FERPA.
- Parents may opt out of certain data sharing or directory information disclosures.
COPPA Compliance
RISE is designed for use by educational institutions and operates under the "school official" exception under COPPA. Schools are responsible for obtaining parental consent when required. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without appropriate authorization.
If we discover we have inadvertently collected data from a child under 13 without proper authorization, we will delete that information promptly.
California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

- Request deletion of personal information (subject to legal exceptions)
- Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (note: RISE does not sell student data)
- Non-discrimination for exercising privacy rights
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements, or platform features. We will notify schools and users of material changes via email or prominent notice on our platform at least 30 days before the changes take effect.
Continued use of the RISE platform after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Terms of Use
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) describe the guidelines for using the RISE platform and services. Please review them carefully so you understand how RISE operates and how the platform is intended to be used.
Eligibility
The RISE platform is intended for use by K–12 educational institutions, authorized school personnel, students (with school authorization), and parents/guardians. Users must be at least 13 years old or have appropriate parental consent and school authorization. Unauthorized access or use is prohibited.
Accounts & Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You must:
- Use strong, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication (MFA)
- Notify RISE immediately of any unauthorized access or security breach
- Not share your account credentials with others
Data Ownership
All student and educational data uploaded to or processed by RISE remains the property of the respective educational institution. RISE acts as a service provider and does not claim ownership of customer data. Upon termination of service, data will be returned or deleted as specified in the applicable service agreement.
Privacy & Compliance
Your use of RISE is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. RISE complies with FERPA, COPPA, CCPA, and other applicable privacy laws. Educational institutions are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate consents and authorizations to use the platform and share data with RISE.
Third-Party Integrations
RISE may integrate with third-party services (e.g., student information systems, learning management systems). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party services. You should review their terms and privacy policies before use.
Intellectual Property
All content, features, functionality, and intellectual property of the RISE platform (including software, text, graphics, logos, and design) are owned by RISE or its licensors and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our prior written consent.
Service Availability
We strive to provide reliable, uninterrupted service, but we do not guarantee that the platform will be available at all times or free from errors. We may suspend or modify the platform for maintenance, updates, or other operational reasons. We are not liable for downtime or service interruptions beyond our reasonable control.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, RISE and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the platform, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability shall not exceed the fees paid by your institution in the twelve months preceding the claim.
Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to RISE at any time for violation of these Terms, unauthorized use, or other conduct that we deem harmful to the platform, other users, or RISE. Upon termination, your right to access and use the platform will immediately cease. Provisions regarding data ownership, intellectual property, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution shall survive termination.
Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising out of or related to these Terms or the RISE platform shall be resolved through:
- Good-faith negotiation between the parties
- Binding arbitration in San Francisco, California, if negotiation fails
- Exclusive jurisdiction in state or federal courts in San Francisco, California, for disputes not subject to arbitration
